What is sun dialed?

Sun dials are ancient devices used to tell time based on the position of the sun in the sky. They consist of a flat plate with markings to indicate the hour, and a raised piece called a gnomon that casts a shadow onto the plate. As the sun moves across the sky throughout the day, the shadow cast by the gnomon moves across the plate, indicating what time it is.

Sun dials have been used for thousands of years, with the earliest known example dating back to ancient Egypt in 1500 BC. Throughout history, they have been used in various forms, including portable versions for travel and larger monumental structures for public use.

Today, sun dials are mainly used as decorative objects or as educational tools to teach people about the principles of timekeeping. They are also used in some cultures for religious purposes, such as marking the times of prayer in Islam.
